Demyelinating Disorder

demyelinating disorderA demyelinating disease is a condition that causes damage to the protective coating (myelin sheath) that surrounds nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. When myelin is damaged, nerve impulses slow or even stop, causing neurological problems.

Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common demyelinating disease. In this disorder, the immune system attacks the myelin sheath or the cells that produce and maintain. Optic neuritis - inflammation of the optic nerve in one or both eyes
Devic disease (neuromyelitis Optica) - inflammation of the optic nerve and spinal cord
Transverse myelitis - inflammation of the spinal cord
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis - inflammation of the brain and spinal cord
Adrenoleukodystrophy and adrenomyeloneuropathy - rare, inherited metabolic

Multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases can cause loss of vision or hearing, headaches, convulsions, muscle spasms and weakness, loss of coordination, paralysis and loss of sensitivity.

Treatment
There is no cure for demyelinating disease and its progression, and symptoms are different for everyone. Treatment focuses on:
Change the course of the disease
Symptom Management
Strategies to treat the symptoms include physical therapy, muscle relaxants and drugs to reduce pain and fatigue.

Demyelinating disorder
Demyelination is a condition in which the myelin sheath that covers and protects nerves in the brain and spinal cord is damaged. Demyelination is not a disease and is considered a separate category of disease in which demyelenation occurs, such as multiple sclerosis.

Definition
The myelin sheath is a natural protein produced by fat body to surround and protect nerves in the brain and spinal cord. immune system cells known as macrophages and T cells, or acquired immune system cells are often in place of demyelinated nerves. Once set in nature demyelnation nerve impulses begin to diminish and eventually stop it.

Multiple Scerlosis
This scarring is what can cause nerve impulses to slow down the natural result of slower and the responses of muscle coordination, strength, and the five senses. At present, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis. The treatment is based primarily on symptom management and control of the autoimmune response in the body.

Eye disorders
One type is eye problems. Optic neuritis occurs when the bundle of nerves in the eye, known as the optic nerve becomes inflamed due to loss of vision. Devic's disease is a condition that causes damage to the optic nerve and spinal cord become inflamed through demyelentation that blindness can lead to pain, muscle weakness or paralysis.

Disorders related to spinal cord
Because the spinal cord is protected by the myelin sheath, disorders of the spinal cord can be caused by demyelenation. In patients with transverse myelitis of the spinal cord is inflamed, which can destroy the myelin. The causes of transverse myelitis include Lyme disease, measles, herpes simplex, Epstein-Barr virus, influenza, HIV, hepatitis A, measles and bacterial pneumonia.
